    Guide for Authors

    Manuscripts submitted to the Saudi Journal of Radiology (SJR) should neither be published previously nor be under consideration for publication in another journal. The main article types are as follows:

    • Articles: Original research manuscripts. The journal considers all original research manuscripts provided that the work reports scientifically sound experiments and provides a substantial amount of new information.

    • Reviews: These provide concise and precise updates on the latest progress made in each area of research. Systematic reviews should follow the updated PRISMA 

    • Case reports: Case reports present detailed information on the symptoms, signs, diagnosis, treatment (including all types of interventions), and outcomes of an individual patient. Case reports usually describe new or uncommon conditions that serve to enhance medical care or highlight diagnostic approaches.

    • Letter to the Editor: This represents a short communication to the editor. It is usually submitted to reply to a recent publication in SJR. it can also be on an unrelated topic of interest to the SJR's readership.

    Specifications for each article type

    The total number of words specified below comprises words on the title page, abstract, keywords, main text, figure and legends, and tables. All manuscripts must adhere to the following specifications.

    Manuscript structure and style

    Manuscripts should be prepared using Word and saved in .doc or .docx format. The font type and font size should preferably be Arial or Times New Roman 12 points. The manuscript should be double-spaced and should include page numbers and spellchecked/grammar checked.

    For original research articles, the manuscript should include the below items and be organized in the following order:

    • Title page: Full title page with acknowledgements and authors’ names and affiliations (upload as a separate file when submitting manuscript).

      • Title: The title of your manuscript should be concise, specific, and relevant.

      • Author List and Affiliations

        • Authors' full first and last names must be provided. The initials of any middle name can be added. Please read the criteria to qualify for authorship.

        • Authors are encouraged to include ORCID identification numbers next to their names.

    • Main text document:

      • Title and Abstract: Please refer to the specifications for each article type for more details.

      • The abstract must be provided in English and Arabic as well.

      • The main manuscript should be organized as follows:

      • Introduction: State the objectives of the work or investigation and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.

      • Methods: They should be described with sufficient details to allow others to replicate and build on published results. Manuscripts should include a statement that the patient's written consent was obtained and any information should be anonymized. Authors should indicate that the design of the work has been approved by local ethical committees or that it conforms to standards currently applied in the country of origin. The name of the authorizing body should be stated in the paper. Manuscripts should include a detailed statistic method and explain the method chosen.

      • Results: Provide a concise and precise description of the experimental results, their interpretation as well as the experimental conclusions that can be drawn.

      • Discussion: Authors should discuss the results and how they can be interpreted from the perspective of previous studies and of the working hypotheses. The findings and their implications should be discussed in the broadest context possible, and limitations of the work highlighted. Future research directions may also be mentioned. This section may be combined with Results.

      • Conclusions: A concise conclusion for the investigation should be included. Repetition of results and discussion should be avoided!

      • Supplementary Materials: Describe any supplementary material published online alongside the manuscript (figure, tables, video, spreadsheets, etc.). Please indicate the name and title of each element as follows Figure S1: title, Table S1: title, etc.

      • Funding: All sources of funding should be disclosed. Clearly indicate grants that you have received in support of your research work and if you received funds to cover publication costs.

      • Disclosure of any conflict of interest:
        Any conflict of interest section should be disclosed.

    • Acknowledgements: In this section, you can acknowledge any support given which is not covered by the author's contribution or funding sections. This may include administrative and technical support, or donations in kind (e.g., materials used for experiments).

    • Figures, Schemes, and Tables:

      • Figures, schemes, and tables should be impeded in the text and at a sufficiently high resolution. Common formats are accepted; however, TIFF, EPS are preferred.

      • Please upload also as a SEPARATE file when submitting the manuscript.

      • All Figures and Tables should be inserted into the main text close to their first citation and must be numbered following their number of appearance (Figure 1, Scheme I, Figure 2, Scheme II, Table 1, ).

      • All figures and tables should have a short explanatory caption.

      • All table columns should have an explanatory heading. Authors should use the Table option of Microsoft Word to create tables.

    • References: References must follow Vancouver referencing style.
      They must be numbered in order of appearance in the text (including table captions and figure legends) and listed individually at the end of the manuscript. We highly recommend preparing the references with a bibliography software package, such as EndNote, Reference Manager, or Mendeley to avoid typing mistakes and duplicated references. We encourage citations to data, computer code, and other citable research material.
